Introduction

 

Veterinary and Animal Husbandry field is related to case of animals. It is a branch of medical also. Veterinary science is a medical profession that deals with the control of disease in animals. By study of it a person can become a doctor of animals. Animals are very important to us so this easing is also necessary. It also includes the breeding and scientific handling of livestock. Veterinarians can choose to work in urban areas, where the work would mostly include the care and handling of domestic pets, or with the government’s animal husbandry departments.

This field is provided various and many job options. Veterinary is a science in which we study of diseases; their symptoms and remedy related to birds and animals. The scientific study of production of milk, egg, meat etc, are also included in it. Main object of this science is like as human medical science.

                       B.V.Sc. (Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry)

 

This course is also called B.V.Sc. It is a five year degree course (4 yeas+1 year internship) in this period practical and theory classes related to Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Nutrition, Production technology, Pathology, Microbiology, Genetics and breeding, Gynecology, Surgery, Medicine, Animal husbandry etc, are teaches. In fifth year field training is given and last six months are reserve for internship.

 

Eligibility

Minimum qualification for B.V. Sc. is 10+2 with physics, chemistry, biology and English is necessary at 10+2 label.

 

Mode of Admission

Many institute and colleges take an admission test for admission in B. V. Sc. program. India Council for Agricultural Research, Krishi Anusandhan Bhavan, Pusa, New Delhi-110012 www.icar.org.in   conducted All India Common Entrance Examination (A.I.C.E.E) for admission to B.V.Sc. for filling up 15% of the total seats in State Agricultural universities and 100% seats in National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal and Central Agriculture University, Imphal. The examination has one paper consisting of Physics, Biology carrying 180 questions (60 questions in each subject).

Veterinary Council of India also conducted an entrance test which is known as All India Pre-Veterinary Test (A.I.P.V.T.) for admission to 15% of seats in each veterinary college for B.V.Sc. or Ah. A minimum of 50% aggregate marks in PCB and English is required in the qualifying examination for taking the test.  www.vci.nic.in. / www.icar.org.in

 

Job Options

Demand of veterinary doctors is increase in last few years. Many more women, too, are entering this profession today.  A veterinary doctor can work with government animal husbandry department, dairy forms, poultry forms, veterinary hospital, zoological park, in army for care to animals etc. Wildlife and zoo veterinarians promote natural ecology and cater to the health problems in wildlife in zoos, national parks and wildlife sanctuaries. Army veterinarians can work as officers of the Remount Veterinary corps.

Pay/Earnings

In India, an average veterinary doctor makes earning between Rs.20, 000 to Rs.1, 00,000 per month. This depends upon the kind of practice and the animals that are treated. The earning is related to experience and qualification. One can also start private practice or become a pet doctor.

It is known as Master in Veterinary Science (M.V.Sc.) it is a two years post graduate program in veterinary science. It gives specialization to students in several fields like Animal Anatomy, Biochemistry, Animal Biotechnology, Animal Husbandry, Animal Economics, Animal Husbandry Extension, Animal Reproduction and livestock extension, Animal Genetics and Breeding, Dairy Science and Technology, Dairy Chemistry, Dairy Engineering, Dairy Microbiology, Food Hygiene, Feed and Fodder Technology, Obstratics and Gynecology, Microbiology, Meat Science and Technology, Nutrition, Pathology, Physiology, Parasitological, Poultry Science and Technology, Piggery, Pharmacology, Preventive Medicine, Surgery, Statistics and Toxicology.

 

Eligibility

B.SC. in veterinary science is minimum qualification for this program. An entrance test is organized by Indian Council for Agriculture Research (I C A R) for admission in this course. Other institutes also conducted their own admission test for M. V. Sc.

 

Job Options

This is a doctoral program of veterinary and animal husbandry for several fields. Minimum qualification for this program is master degree (M.V.Sc.). A student can take admission in Ph. D. program in animal breading and genetics/ animal nutrition/ animal reproduction/ live stalk production and management/veterinary anatomy and physiology /clinical veterinary medicine/veterinary inicronology/veterinary physiology and gynecology/ veterinary public health/veterinary biochemistry and livestock products technology etc.

 

 

Job Options

 

After Ph. D. a person can work in research field or can go to teaching field at university or college level. There are many job options for Ph. D. holder. In this field one can do work in research Institutes run by government and private sector or start own private practice.
