Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery is a degree programme in ayurveda.  This degree is equivalent to MBBS. This stream of medical is depending upon ayurvedic medicines. Today the use of this therapy is become popular because this therapy is side effect less so career options are increases in this field. It is a degree course like any other undergraduate course. In India it is almost equivalent to a degree in medicine and as the name suggests it deals with the study of traditional and modern threads of medicine. This course brings together the blend of traditional ayurvedic processes and modern medical specialities. It is in other words a medical cocktail, made of two equally strong and equally potent mixtures. The course is a long one that goes on for 5 and half years, which also includes a year of internship. However this course mainly equips students with an exhaustive knowledge of yoga, ayurveda and naturopathy. This course is available only in India as this nation is the hotbed of Ayurveda and yoga.

Eligibility

Minimum qualification for this program ( BAMS Course ) must have passed Intermediate / Senior School Certificate Examination (C.B.S.E.) / Indian School Certificate Examination (12 years course) with Science (Physics, Chemistry & Biology) and English or any other equivalent qualification recognised by the University with 50% or more marks in the aggregate of three subjects i.e. Physics, Chemistry, Biology and has also passed English from the recognised school conducting regular classes (except Patrachar Vidhyalaya & Open School). While deciding the merit the marks obtained in English will not be taken into consideration and knowledge of Sanskrit is an additional requirement for this course. It is a degree course equivalent to M.B.B.S.

Duration:5 Years 6 Months (Main Course with 1 year Compulsory Internship Training programme.)

Career Objects

After this programme candidate become a doctor. A BAMS doctor can serve with government or private hospital or also can own private practice. Demand of ayurvedic doctors increase. A BAMS qualified person can join as a practitioner in any of the various private and public ayurvedic hospitals and clinics. There is also the option of starting your own practice or doing business related to Ayurveda or ayurvedic medicines. They can also join various companies and establishments that make ayurvedic medicines. There are also several NGO’s and INGO’s that would need the expertise of an ayurvedic doctor or a consultant. There are also various researches being conducted all over the country.  Since this field of medicine and treatment has its roots in India, students here have better opportunities and facilities as well. Today the use of this therapy is become popular because this therapy is side effect less so career options are increases in this field. Earning is no bar for an experience.

Earning

Earning is no bar for an experience ayurvedic doctor. Although the pay scale in the private sector is not organized yet a BAMS doctor can start his career with approximately Rs. 20,000 per month. With decent personal set-up and experience one can earn between Rs. 20,000 to 50,000, or more per month. However there is no limitation of earning if  once the doctor becomes famous in the society.
