Textile Engineering

Textile Engineering is a branch of engineering that deals with the application of scientific and engineering principles to the design and control of all aspects of fiber, textile, and apparel processes, products and machinery. The main aim of Textile Engineering is to design and control of textiles, its raw materials and the finished product. Textile Engineering is now a part of the fashion industry, so it provides a lot of job options.

Courses

  • Certificate/ Diploma Course– Six months course in textile engineering.
  • tech /B.E -Three year degree course in textile engineering.
  • Tech/B.E. – Two year post graduate degree courses in textile engineering. 

Eligibility

For diploma in engineering, minimum qualification is 10th class examination with at least 50% marks. Various polytechnics offer diploma in textile engineering.

Minimum qualification for bachelor degree course (B.E. or B.Tech) is to pass 12 class board examination with at least 50% marks (60% for IITs) in the science stream with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Diploma holders in textile engineering can also get direct admission into second year of Textile engineering.

Minimum qualification for master degree course (M.E. or M.Tech) is the bachelor degree program in Textile engineering is required.

Mode of Admission

An entrance examination JEEMAIN is conducted by CBSE every year for admission in B. E. / B. Tech and B.Arch in all IITs and NIITs located all over the country. For more see www.cbse.nic.in or www.jeemain.nic.in . States are conducted separate entrance examinations for admission to the colleges situated in that state.

 Job option

Due to change in fashion sector, the textile industry is also expanded, so demand of the textile professionals increases. A textile professional can work with garment manufacturing industry, export houses, retailing industry, silk industry, khadi (cotton) industry, handloom field etc. Textile Engineer can work in dyeing and finishing, technical services, research and development, quality control, product development, polymer science and environmental control, technical sales, industrial engineering, product development, marketing, customer relations, human resources, and cost and inventory control. Textile Engineer can also work as Process engineer, Quality control supervisor, Technical Services/Sales Manager, Operations Trainee, Process Improvement Engineer, Medical Textiles Engineer etc.

 Pay/Earning

 A Fresher can get a starting salary between Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 60,000 per month excluding other allowances. In the government sector salary of diploma holders is Rs.3 5,000 to Rs. 50,000 per month. Senior engineers can earn between Rs 30,000 and Rs 80,000 per month.
